Our Review
The Camp Chef SmokePro DLX addresses one of the most common complaints about pellet grills—tedious ash cleanup—while delivering exceptional smoking performance and thoughtful design features that make it a standout choice for serious outdoor cooks. The patented ash cleanout system is genuinely revolutionary. A simple lever pull drops accumulated ash into a removable cup, eliminating the need to vacuum out the fire pot or disassemble the grill for cleaning. This feature alone saves 15-20 minutes after each cook and makes the SmokePro DLX significantly more user-friendly than competitors. During our three-month testing period, this system proved reliable and effective even after extended smoking sessions. The PID controller maintains remarkably consistent temperatures, typically within 5-10 degrees of the target setting. This precision is crucial for low-and-slow smoking where temperature fluctuations can significantly impact results. The 160°F to 500°F range covers everything from cold smoking cheese to high-heat pizza cooking. The 570 square inch cooking area easily accommodates multiple racks of ribs or several whole chickens, while the porcelain-coated cast iron grates provide excellent heat retention and easy cleanup. The SmokePro DLX is compatible with Camp Chef's optional sear box attachment, which adds propane-powered high-heat searing capability exceeding 900°F. This addresses the one weakness of pellet grills—achieving steakhouse-quality sear marks—making the system truly versatile.

Our Testing Process
We conducted comprehensive testing over three months including 15+ hour brisket smokes, overnight pork shoulder cooks, and various smoking and roasting applications. Temperature consistency was monitored using data-logging thermometers throughout extended cooks. The ash cleanout system was evaluated after each session for effectiveness and ease of use. We tested the optional sear box attachment for high-heat searing performance. Pellet consumption was tracked across different temperature settings and weather conditions.
